Changes in the environment surrounding SPDC

1970 Jul Saudi Arabia made initial request for cooperation concerning petrochemical projects
1973 Oct Fourth Middle East War broke out. Oil crisis
1979 Jan A company was established for conducting a feasibility study of Saudi Arabian
petrochemical projects (Saudi Petrochemicals Development Co., Ltd.)
Feb Iranian Revolution. Second Oil crisis
1980 Apr Japan-Saudi joint venture feasibility study began
Sep Iran-Iraq War broke out
1981 May Company reorganized as an Investment company and renamed SPDC Ltd.
Japanese Government decided to provide 45% of SPDC's capital through the Overseas Economic
Cooperation Fund (presently Japan international Cooperation Agency)
